The bar chart shows the projected age distribution of the Iceland population from 2020 to 2050.Overall,the proportion of older inhabitants is expected to increase significantly,while the youth population will decline.The 25-54 age group is projected to remain the largest,although with some fluctuation over the period.
In 2020, the 25-54 age group constituted the largest segment of the population at approximately 38%.This was followed by those aged 55 and over ,comprising roughly 14%.The youngest group (0-14) accounted for 25%,while the 15-24 age range represented the smallest proportion,at just under 21%.
By 2030,a slight decrease is anticipated in the proportion of 25-54 year olds,falling to around 33%.In contrast,the 0-14 age group is expected to increase to almost 32%.Both the 55 and over and 15-24 age groups will experience a decline ,reaching approximately 12 and 19% respectively.
This trend continues through the following decades.By 2050 ,25-54 age group is predicted to rebound the largest proportion of the population,reaching approximately 45%.The proportion of individuals aged 55 and over is expected to decline further to around 10%,falling below that of the 0-14 age group,which is projected to comprise about 16%.
