The line graph depicts the distribution of annual salaries in thousands of dollars of different occupations from 2001 to 2015, covering a period of 15 years.
It is clear that the income changes of data scientists were the highest overall while the civil engineers experienced almost no salary changes. In contrast, the annual wages of computer engineers, mechanical engineers and software engineers increased sharply at the end of the period.
Looking at the salary of data scientists, it increased gradually from 75 thousand of dollars in 2001 until it leveled out at around 200 thousand of dollars in 2015. At its plateau state, the salary of software engineers surpassed by 25 thousand of dollars. Although the annual income of software engineers started off from the lowest at around 35 thousand dollars, it rose dramatically and reached over 225 thousand dollars, becoming the highest salary among all.
In terms of the income for civil engineers, it remained stable at around 65 thousand of dollars throughout all the period except from a slight change in 2004 and a moderate increase in 2015. On the contrary, although computer engineers and mechanical engineers began and ended the period at different salaries, a similar pattern was observed. Apart from the fact that the annual wages of mechanical engineers decreased till 2005, both the incomes of computer engineers and mechanical engineers stay stable in the middle of the period and reached their highest points at around 175 thousand of dollars and 90 thousand of dollars respectively.
