Overall, there was a decrease in the number of applicants from China over the time whereas an increase can be seen in the figures of students who came from Japan and the USA. Last but not least, Russia has the lowest figures throughout the period.
China had around 27,000 applicants in 2004 before experiencing a gradual decline throughout the years before stopping at 15,000 applicants in 2008. Contrast to the declining trend in China is the uprising increase in applicants from the USA. The USA had about 13,000 applicants in 2004 and significantly increase during the periods of 4 years and reach its peak at around 27,000 applicants in 2008.
Japan’s figures although are increasing are not as noteworthy as the United States, in 2004 they had more than 5,000 students and in 2008 they only reached 10,000 applicants. Russian’s figures are at an all-time low with the highest it ever achieve is merely 3,000 applicants and it also experiences some decline and increase in figures throughout the 4 years period.
