Overall, while the participation rates of girls in this age group were higher in drama, singing and especially dancing, boys exhibited higher figures in playing musicals and sports. Moreover, sports were the most popular activity regardless of the gender of the participants.
In 2003, girls were much more involved in dancing, drama, and singing compared to boys. 25 percent of girls took part in dancing, while boys participated less than 5 percent. Girls also joined in drama and singing a bit more than boys but the differences were not very big. Boys were less interested in these cultural activities.
Another significant difference is that boys showed the highest percentage in two activities: sports and playing musical. Boys showed the highest percentage of participating in sports at 70 percent than girls. Girls joined to this activity at around 50 percent. Similarly, both genders were more interested in this cultural activity. When it comes to playing musical, boys exhibited higher rates with 15 percent as opposed to girls which was 10 percent.
