Overall, export revenues in 2016 were much more pronounced than 2015 in almost all categories, except for gems and jewellery. Moreover, petroleum products consistently accounted for the most valuable earnings. Additionally, the most substantial increase was seen in the figure of textiles.
Looking at the export earnings, petroleum products dominated in both years, generating roughly 60 billion dollars in 2015, and rising to nearly 62 billion dollars in 2016, followed by engineered goods, earning around 57 billion dollars in 2015, and increasing to over 60 billion dollars one year later. Both agricultural products and textiles recorded a relatively small value, with the former accounting for about half of petroleum product’s figure, at around 30 billion dollars, and the latter went up from 27 billion dollars to 31 billion dollars over the period. Gems and jewellery witnessed the converse trend, with about 42 billion dollars in 2015 before declining to roughly 40 billion dollars in 2016.
In terms of the percentage changes, export values in textiles surged significantly, with 15.24% a growth of. In contrast, gems and jewelry experienced a considerable drop, decreasing 5.18% over the period. The remaining categories showed a moderate growth. Earnings in engineered goods rose by 8.5%, while petroleum products went up only 3%, and agricultural goods saw a negligible climb, with just a 0.81% increase.
