The line chart presents data comparing changes in three different types of crime: burglary, car theft and robbery in Newport city centre between 2003 and 2012.
Overall, burglary experienced a significant decline over the period, while car theft showed a steady increase. Robbery, on the other hand, remained relatively stable throughout the years.
At the beginning of the period, burglary had the highest number of incidents around 3.500 in 2003 and experienced a significant increase of almost 4000 criminal cases in just 1 year. However, a significant decline was experienced over the period, and only about 1.500 crime cases in 2012. On the other hand, the criminal cases due to car theft showed relatively stable and steady increase although experienced a slight decrease in 2006. At the end of the period, the number of incidents of car theft was around 3000.
Meanwhile, the robbery cases became the lowest number of crimes around 600 in the beginning of the period and increased by around 300 cases in 2004. Furthermore, it continued to decline until 2008 although there was a slight increase at the end of 2012
