Overall, while the majority of adults in 2003 worked in the business sector, the proportion decreased significantly by 2013. Meanwhile, employment in education training, the hotel industry and self-employment increased noticeably.
In 2003, the majority of adults worked in business, accounting for about 47%. However, this figure fell significantly to approximately 28% in 2013. Employment in the medical sector also decreased, dropping from around 20% to 10%. In addition, unemployment fell from about 11% in 2003 to only 5% in 2013.
By contrast, several sectors growth noticeably. The proportion of adults working in education and training rose from roughly 8% in 2003 to about 18% in 2013. A similar increase was seen in the hotel industry, which rose from around 4% to nearly 19%. Employment in building doubled from about 10% to 20% during the same period. Self-employment also became more common, rising sharply from approximately 11% to around 31%.
