Overall, individuals who preferred rented accommodation dropped over years, in contrast to people who opted for own houses, saw a rise over years. Moreover, the highest and lowest percentages were recorded in the same year, which was in 1981.
To begin with, individuals who lived in their rented houses in 1981, were just below 80%, which was the highest, in comparison to people who opted for an own house, which was just above 20%. Similarly, people who opted for rented accommodation in 1939 and 1953 were nearly twice more than the people who choose an own house. Moreover, individuals who choose an own house were just 40% in 1961, but just below 60% people choose rented accommodation the same year. An equal share was recorded in 1971, where 50% of people choose rented and owned houses.
However, in 1981 and 2011 more members of the public preferred an own house, which was around 60%, in contrast to people who choose rented accommodation, which was nearly 40%. Furthermore, in 1991 and 2011 individuals who preferred owned accommodation, where double that of people who choose rented accommodation, which is just below 70% and just above 30%, respectively.
