The chart illustrates the differences between proportions of females and males passing their driving test in an Asian nation between 1980 and 2010. In general, despite a similar increasing trend in both figures, the portion of women successful in the test surpassed that of men throughout the period. Besides, another outstanding feature is that passing rates of both genders are highest in 2000.
The percentage of females succeeding in the driving test started the period at less than 50% before experiencing a minor increase to over 50% a decade later. At the same time, the figure for males was two-thirds that of their counterparts’ at first, representing approximately 30% in 1980. Subsequently, it followed a similar upward pattern as females’ rate, but to a larger extent, rising to nearly 40% in 1990.
The year 2000 witnessed a significant leap in both the percentages of women and men who passed the test since they rose by around 15% and 10% to reach a high of roughly 70% and 50%, respectively. However, one year later, while the portion of women succeeding in the test underwent a moderate decline to around 65%, that of men stabilized at the same percentage. In addition, throughout the research period, the figure for women overrode that for men.
