The bar chart gives information about the proportion of people in the UK who had an interest in six types of sports (football, tennis, swimming, volleyball, rugby and golf) between 1995 and 2000.
Overall, over the period given, UK people were interested in all the types of sports shown to some extent, but the most popular one for them was football. On the other hand, the least percentage of people showed interest in golf.
In 1995, the sport that was most popular among people in the UK was football, and those who showed interest in it were around 40%. This number, on the other hand, increased to almost 48% after five years, before falling to about 45% in 2005. Additionally, the percentage of people who showed interest in rugby, which was the second most common sort of sports in the UK from 1995 to 2005, rose slightly, from almost 35% to around 37%.
With regard to other types of sports, there were three sports where people showed almost the same interest, namely swimming, volleyball and tennis. However, there was an increase in the interest of people towards swimming and volleyball, from approximately 27% to almost 30% for both sports, but it was the opposite for tennis, where there was a 5% decrease to nearly 27% between 1995 and 2005. By contrast, golf, where there was a slight increase (from around 17% to almost 19%) in the percentage of people who were interested in this sport, remained the least popular sports among UK people during the decade.
