The bar graph presents the share of sustainable energy in the total power source in four nations between 1997 and 2010. Overall, it is clear that there was an upward trend in the proportion of alternative energy usage in Iceland. Australia, by contrast, saw/experienced the smallest decline and recorded the lowest figures overall. A modest upward trend is observed in Sweden, while Turkey fluctuated slightly.
In Australia, renewable energy accounted for a relatively small share of total energy supply, starting just under 10% in 1997 and continuing to decline slightly until it stopped at 7% in 2000. This figure declined further to around 5% by 2010. In contrast, Sweden witnessed a slight increase in all three given years, with the proportion rising from about 6% in 1997 to roughly 7% in 2000 before reaching close to 10% in 2010.
Iceland consistently dominated renewable energy production throughout the period. In 1997, it was just over 40% before rising sharply to 60% in 2000. This upward pattern continued, with renewable energy accounting for around 70% in 2010. As for Turkey, it displayed a variable pattern: the sharp increase under 40%. Despite increasing to over 40% in 2000, it markedly fell down to approximately over 30% by the end of the period.
