The bar chart illustrates the percentages of the total world oil resources along with consumption of the total oil across 10 different areas.
Overall, it is clear from the chart that in all areas given consumption of oil and the total oil resources were approximately equally represented with the notable exceptions of the Middle East, Asia, Western Europe and the USA, where the gaps between categories were more significant.
Of the top three nations in terms of total world oil resources, the proportion in the Middle East was the highest, where the percentage of the total world oil resources outperformed their counter category in a ratio of nine to one. This was followed by Canada, which also saw a similar pattern, exceeding by almost seven times, around 15% and slightly over 2%, respectively. The gap between categories in Central and South America was not that significant, while the proportion of the total world oil resources was considerably higher in Africa.
In stark contrast, the proportion of oil consumption in the US along with Asia averaged at around a quarter, whereas the percentage of the total oil resources stood at around 2%. Similarly, in Western Europe the percentage of oil consumption and the total oil resources were around 20% and almost 1.5%, respectively. Additionally, in Eastern Europe both categories were equally represented, while Australia and New Zealand and other countries were the least contributors.
