The bar chart illustrates the total distance traveled by travellers on five types of transport, namely bicycle, motorbike, air, bus, and rail, in the UK during 10 years.
Overall, bus and rail were the most popular modes of transport between 1990 and 2000, whereas bicycle, motorbike, and air were less commonly used by passengers. In 2000, the total distance was greater than in 1990.
In detail, bicycle transport was used for 5 km by passengers in 1990. Similarly, motorbike and air transport followed the same pattern. Air transport accounted for the lowest proportion with 2 km. Use of the first three modes of transport declined steadily. Then, it increased substantially and reached a peak in bus transport, while in rail transport, there was a slight dip.
By comparison, in 2000, bicycle transport ranked at the bottom in the chart, while bus transport led the ranking. Bus transport was marginally higher than rail transport in 2000.
Notably, bus transport remains more popular than the other four transports during the 10 years. By comparison, passenger use increased steadily.
