Regarding the various modes of transport, buses and railways remained the most widely used. These means and air travel saw an increase in popularity. In contrast, bicycles and motorbikes witnessed an opposite trend.
In terms of groups showing an upward trend, the distance of air travel experienced the most dramatic growth, increasing from about 5 billion kilometers in 1990 to around 15 billion in 2000. Similarly, the distance traveled by rail grew significantly, rising from approximately 40 billion to 50 billion kilometers during the same period. Meanwhile, the total distance of buses rose slightly, from approximately 47 billion kilometers in the first year to 49 billion in the final year.
Regarding the groups showcasing downward trend, the figure of bicycles stood at around 10 billion in 1990. After that, this dropped insignificantly to 8 billion in 2000. Additionally, the distance covered by motorbike also decreased steadily , falling from 12 billion in 1990 to 8 billion in 2000.
