The two bar chart illustrates the percentages of 14 to 16 years-old students learning a modern additional language in an English-speaking country in two different years-1984 and 2007.
Overall, the former bar chart provided information about the proportion of girls and boys in both years, therefore in two years girls contributed higher percentages than boy’s figure. The second chart demonstrates the top three languages in 1984 and 2007, and French had the largest proportion of learners.
Looking at the details, in 1984 the girls accounted for around 65% of studying a modern second language, while the boys figure was smaller than girls by nearly 20%, at 45%. Apart from that, in 2007 the girls number decreased to around 50%, while the boy’s number also declined by nearly 5%, it made up 40% in 2007.
Regarding the second graph, the learners of French language had the highest percentages in both years, it accounted for 65% in 1984, after that it decreased to 50% in 2007. Next, Spanish languages made up the smallest proportion in 1984, it was around 5%, however it increased by 15%, to 20% in 2007. Lastly, the students who learned German stayed constantly in 1984 and 2007, at 15%.
