The given charts and tables illustrate the proportion of Little Chalfont library’s members by age groups, and the percentages of loans per category in 2016, and the total number of loans over a nine-year period, starting from 2007.
Overall, adults aged 18 to 64 were the primary members of the library, while both children’s and adult fiction was the most popular type of book in 2016. It is also noted that the library saw an upward trend in its total loans throughout the entire period.
In terms of library members, the figure for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 was nearly the same as that of adults in the 65 to over age group, at 15% compared to 12%, whereas individuals aged 18 to 64 accounted for just over half of the total number of members. Regarding categories, the percentages of fictions for both youngsters and adults were approximately one-third higher than that of adult non-fiction, 38% as opposed to 13%, while the latter was roughly twice as much as the level for children non-fiction, at 6%.
With respect to total loans, at the beginning of the period, in 2007, the figure stood at around 15,000, which then surged to over 20,000 in 2011. Over the following two years, in 2013, the library witnessed a slight drop to merely under 20,000, but a gradual rise to above 20,000 again by the final year of the period.
