The pie charts compare the changes in the ages of British tourists to Spain from 1983 to 2003.
Overall, the number of travellers aged 0 to 15, 16 to 24, and over 55 years old experienced an upward trend, while the opposite was true in the case of the remaining cohorts. It is also clear that 34-to-54-year-old visitors to Spain always accounted for the highest figure.
In terms of travellers aged between 34 and 54 years old, despite witnessing a drastic decline from 50% to 35%, this age group remained the largest over the surveyed period. The 25-to-34 group followed a similar pattern, but to a lesser extent, standing at 20% in 1983 before falling to only 12% in 2003.
Turning to the remaining categories, the oldest group rose markedly from 16% to just over one-quarter of total visitors, while the youngest age category increased slightly from 10% to 12%, reaching parity with the 25-to-34 group. Notably, the most significant growth was recorded among 16-to-24-year-olds, whose share nearly quadrupled to 15% in the final year.
