The pie charts illustrate the proportion of visitors who come to libraries that cater to the general public for different purposes in two distinct years, 1991 and 2000.
Overall, the figure for individuals visiting publiclibraries due to borrowing or returningbooks, reading newspapers or magazines, and studying underwent a downward trend, whereas a reverse pattern could be observed in those who wanted to obtain information. Notably, there appeared a new sector in 2000, that is, borrowing and returning videos.
In 1991, the percentage of people who went to the library with the purpose of borrowing and returningbooks ranked first, at 65%. In addition, a lower figure, exactly 15%, was witnessed in those who visited the library to read newspapers or magazines. The remaining categories, however, accounted for the lowest number with 10%.
Regarding 2000, there was a significant decrease in the figures on users using this publiclibrary to read newspapers or magazines and study, to 5% and around 2%, respectively. Moreover, the percentage of people coming to the library because of borrowing or returningbooks and gaining information experienced a fluctuation of 10%, with the former decreasing to 55% and the latter increasing to 20%. Finally, 18% of visitors began to use publiclibraries to borrow and return videos.
