The charts compare the age structure of the population in Yemen and Italy in 2000, with projections for 2050.
Overall, in 2000 Yemen had a very young population, while Italy had many older people. In the future both countries will have more older , but Italy will age muchmore. In 2000 half of the population in Yemen was between 0 and 14 years old. People aged 15-59 made up 46.3% and only 3.6% were 60 or over. By 2050 the number of children in Yemen is expected to fall 37% while the 15-59 group will grow to 57.3%. The elderly population will increase slightly to 5.7%.
In Italy situation was different. In 2000 only 14.3% were aged 0-14, and most people were 15-59 years old. A large part 24.3% were 60 or older. In 2050 Italy will have fewer young people 11.5% and fewer working age adults 46.2%. However the number of elderly people will rise greatly to 42.3%.
Yemen will still have a younger population compared to Italy, but both countries will see growth in older age groups.
