Overall, private studios are currently the most popular location of dance classes. Children under 11 prefer ballet, while those aged from 11 to 16 mostly attend modern dance classes.
Nowadays, private studios are in high demand as 48% of young dancers attend them. 24% of children and teenagers choose school halls as the location for dance classes after their school lessons. Approximately one fifth of young dancers practise at community halls and other locations, and the smallest number (10%) attend college-based studios.
Children under 11 favour ballet, while modern dance is their least favourite type of dance (600 and 300 students, respectively). In contrast, most teenagers choose modern dance classes (520 individuals), whereas ballet classes are attended by only 300 Australians aged 11 to 16. There are approximately the same numbers of young dancers under and over 11 who prefer tap classes (around 400).
