The given graphs depicts the proportion of people who used the Internet for distinct purposes in Australia.
On the whole, it can be observed that most people used the Internet for contacting via emails. In addition, while young adults (aged 18 to 25) used the Internet for social media the most, 65+ year-olds paid online invoices and emailed the most on the platform.
To begin with, the proportion of Australians of all ages who used the network for emailing was approximately 70%, which was relatively higher than that of social media and online paying (about 45%). In 2010 and 2011, nearly 100% of people aged 18 to 25 used social media, which was significantly higher than the other age groups’ figures, and was nearly five times that of 65+ individuals.
Meanwhile, elderly people (aged 65 or above) used the Internet mostly for online paying and emailing, whose figures stood at around 80%, which were marginally higher than those of individuals aged 40 to 60. Noticeably, the proportion of other age group (18 to 25, 26 to 40 and 60 to 65 year-olds) who used the Internet for online purchases were 60%, 65% and 70%, respectively, which were relatively equal to their figures of contacting via emails on the Internet in the same order.
