The two pie charts illustrate the significant changes in the rate of energy produced from various resources in the country in the years 1985 and 2003.
Overall, at the beginning of the period, oil contributed the highest energy production to the country while other renewable power made the least contribution. In comparison, at the end of the period, oil remained as the largest contributor to the country’s energy produce and both hydro and other renewable resource made up the lowest energy segment.
Hydropower accounted for 4% of the country’s energy production in 1985 and remained constant until 2003. Energy from other renewable resources was 1% in 1985 and had a slight growth of 3% in 2003. Initially resources like natural gas and coal contributed 13% and 8% of energy to the country’s requirements respectively, and these figures rose to 23% and 22% in 2003 respectively.
Energy produced from oil which comprised more than half of the country’s production in 1985, fell to 39% in 2003. In addition, the nuclear energy faced a gradual decline from 22% in 1985 to 8% in 2003.
