The given pie charts illustrate the percentage of different sources of energy exploited in a certain nation within 18 years, starting in 1985.
In general, oil was the most widely used energy source in both surveyed years. Another feature is that there was a dramatic increase in the exploitation of fossil fuels energy.
In 1985, the proportion of energy generated by oil took up the largest part with 52%, and its position stayed unchanged throughout the years, with 39% in 2003. Despite being the second most popular source of energy in the first year, the figure of nuclear energy had been exceeded by that of natural gas and coal by the end of the period. Meanwhile, the least popular sources of energy belonged to hydro and other renewable resources during the 18 years.
While the figure for nuclear energy witnessed a three-fold decrease to 8% in 2003, the data of natural gas and coal energy grew dramatically from 13% and 8%, respectively, to roughly 23% within 18 years. In addition, the figure for energy produced from hydro saw a stability at 4% during the whole period, which is similar to the data of other renewable energy in 2003.
