The charts illustrate the main causes of travel and issues for the traveling public in the US, in 2009. Overall, it can be seen that the most common reason for travel was dominated by employees who commuted to and from work, while the most popular issue that may affect people was price of travel.
In detail, it is noticeable that on the first graph, the percentage of people who traveled to and from work was the highest among other reasons, about 49%. Personal reasons and shopping had a similar trend, around 19% and 16% respectively. Followed by social or recreational purpose about 10%; surprisingly, only about 6% of travel aimed to visit family or friends.
In addition, on the second chart it is clearly shown that the price of commuting had a significant impact on the traveling public, around 36%. There were about 19% and 17% people concerned about safety and aggressive drivers respectively. Furthermore, highway congestion only affected about 14%. However, people pay less attention to space for pedestrians and access to public transport, which were about 6% and 8% respectively.
