The pie charts below illustrate the nutrient proportions found in the four main meals, namely breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, which are considered detrimental, if consumed excessively.
In summary, sodium and saturated fat in dinner account for the largest proportion, compared to the figures for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Conversely, snacks contain the highest amount of refined sugar among all the meals. Breakfast constitutes the smallest proportions of sodium, saturated fat, and refined sugar, whereas lunch contains all three nutrients, which are significantly lower than those in dinner.
To begin with, breakfast contains a very small amount of three substances, including sodium, saturated fat and refined sugar, at around 14%, 16%, and 16% respectively. In contrast, the proportions of all three nutrients found in dinner stand at a high level, with sodium at around 43%, saturated fat at 37%, and refined sugar at 23%, surpassing the figures for breakfast and lunch.
In addition, 43% of refined sugar is found in snacks, which is relatively higher than that in the other meals. However, a moderate amount of sodium, saturated fat, and refined sugar are present in lunch, at 29%, 26%, and 19% respectively.
