The table and bar charts compare the amount of time spent on leisure and housework activities between the two genders in the UK in 2008.
Overall, it is discernible from the charts that watching TV, radio, and video was the most time-spending activity in spare time among both sexes. Meanwhile, cooking and washing had the largest figure for housework. Notably, the biggest difference was seen in the clothing washing and ironing category.
Regarding the leisure activities table, the number of men spending time watching TV, and listening to the radio stood at 137 minutes, 19 higher than that of women. As opposed to this, two other categories in this table showed that women using their time outweighed men. In detail, there was a tiny gap in the figure for reading books between males and females with 18 and 19 respectively. Similarly, minutes for doing sports exercises for the women stood at 11, in comparison with 15 men.
As for the bar chart about housework, females accounted for nearly 80 minutes, which is almost double that of males. Recording the same trend, the figure for the clothing washing and ironing for the women was half of hour, twice as much as the time of the opposite gender. The amount of time for shopping by males was smaller than that of females with approximately 25 and 35 respectively. In contrast, the only category in which men outweighed women was recorded repair work when they spent time twice as much as that of women.
