The graph illustrates the figures for students learning a foreign language and the three top-tier languages studied performed by gender in the year of 1984 and 2007.
As can be overall understanding, the graph noticeably reveals that the percentage of girls studying a language is superior to that of the other gender. Additionally, while French was the most favored language in both periods, Spanish attracted the least students.
In detail, the year 1984 witnessed a percentage of approximately 49 females learning a foreign language, which tended to decrease slightly to 30 percent in 2007. A similar pattern was observed in the contrastive gender, only nearly 25 percent of males in 2007 studied a foreign language, which has fallen by 5 percent compared to that in 1984.
Looking closely at other figures provided in the second graph, French markedly claimed 50 percent of students, which was followed by German and Spanish with 20 and about 5 percent, respectively. However, in the next 23-year period, whilst French and German observed a great decrease in learners, Spanish students moderately increased up to 10 percent. Despite some functional changes in the rate of language learners, French still claimed the majority of the chart and Spanish was still at the bottom of the chart.
