The charts below describe the main problems associated with traffic congestion in two US cities in 2024.
It is clear how in city A the main cause was the excessive private car use, strictly followed by poor public transportation. In contrast, in city B happened he opposite, because the latter was the main responsible followed by excessive private car usage . Roadworks, accidents and other miscellaneus causes summarised were lesserly responsible.
We can clearly see how excessive private car use, in city A, accounted for about half of the total causes of traffic congestion, specifically 45%, which is an huge number. In this regard, city B datas showed a little bit diffrent course with only 30% of causes associated with that. City B problems were mainly due to a less efficent public transportation with a 35% value.
It’s evident how in city A the average time spent travelling to work was 45 minutes, higher compared with city B with 35 minutes; this data correlates well with the amount of miles travelled daily by the workers which are a little bit more (18 vs 14) and of course with the money spend on it (5.2 dollars on average in city A vs 3.8 dollars in city B).
