Overall, food was the biggest expense in 1990, but by 2010 housing had become the largest category instead. Spending on transport also grew over the period, while spending on food and others became less important.
In 1990, food took up the largest part of income, with 33%. Housing was the second biggest category with 20%, followed by others at 22%. Transport was 15% and recreation was the smallest with only 10%.
By 2010, the situation had changed. Housing rose to 28%, becoming the largest category, while food dropped to 25%. Transport also grew, from 15% to 20%. Recreation rose slightly to 12%, and others fell to 15%, which is 7% lower than in 1990.
