The charts below give information about the total percentage of household income spent on five categories ( food, recreation, transport, housing and other needs), in a european country in 1990 and 2010.
In year 1990, food accounted for the most expenditure, more than one third of the total expenditure, approximately at 33%. Other needs came at the second place, marginally over two tenth of the total (22%), followed by housing and transport (20% and 15% respectively). The least amount of household income was spent on recreation, reportedly at 10%.
As far as the proportion of income spent in year 2010 is concerned, all of the said categories experienced a growth in their percentage accompagnied with several changes in their rankings, with the exception of food and other needs. Housing was now the category in which the highest percentage of household income was spent in, almost one third of its total (33%). The total amount spent in food slightly decreased ( 25%). The same pattern can be detected at other needs, which fell down to 15%, ending in the fourth place. Transport was the third-most spent necessity, resulting in less than a quarter of the total ( 20%). Recreation was once again the least spent category out of all (12%).
