The bar chart illustrates the proportion of people who owned a smarthphone in the USA, China and India in 2016 and 2020. Overall, it is clear that smartphone ownership increased in all three countries over the period.
The USA constantly recorded the highest percentages, while India had the lowest figures in both years, despite experiencing the significant growth. In addition, the gap between the leading and lowest-perfoming countries narrowed by 2020.
In 2016, 70 percent of people in the USA had a smartphone, which was higher than the numbers of China and India, at around 55 percent and 40 percent respectively.
By 2020, ownership rates had risen across all countries. The proportion of the USA increased to 80 percent, representing a rise of 10 percentage points. Meanwhile, China and India both saw more substential growth, with their figures climbing by 20 percentage points each. As a result the difference between the highest and the lowest values decreased from 30 percente in 2016 to 20 percent in 2020.
