The following pie chart represents the amount of water utilized in different sectors in six major regions of the world.
Overall, North America and Europe used a large volume of water in industrial use, while Africa, South America, and Asia used the majority of their water in agriculture, while domestic use of water remained low.
North America and Europe’s industrial sector used more than 40 percent of their water resources, while the agriculture sector used just below 40 percent of their water.
South America, Africa, and Asia used a large proportion of water in their agriculture sector, from 70 to around 90 percent. On the contrary, less than 15 percent of water is taken away for industrial use, likewise, less than 10 percent of water is consumed by Africa and Asia, while the highest, around 19 percent, is used by South America. In summary, Africa and Asia used the majority of their water for farming purposes, in contrast to that, North America and Europe used the majority of their water in the industrial sector.
