Overall, water used for agriculture constitutes the vast majority in almost all areas, except for North America and Europe, where the largest share of water used is allocated to industrial use. Additionally, domestic use account for the smallest share of total water consumption across all regions.
For agriculture, South America, Africa, Central Asia and Southeast Asia allocate a huge amount of water sources to this sector, at over 71%, with the largest proportion (about 88%) being in Central Asia, while North America and Europe only use about one-third of their water.
In terms of industrial use, while haft of water consumption is used in North America and Europe, comprising 48% and 53%, respectively, the figures for this sector are only around under 12% in the remaining regions.
Regarding domestic purposes, countries in the America and Europe consume more water (around 13 to 19%) compared to the nations in Africa and Asia (below 10%), in which South America uses the most of water, at around one-fifth of the total.
