The two pie charts illustrate the expected and actual employment sectors of psychology graduates after completing their studies.
Overall, private clinics were predicted to employ the largest percentage of graduates, while schools and universities became the main employer in reality. In addition, community agencies hired a much greater proportion of psychologists than had been anticipated.
According to the anticipated figures, 68% of graduates were expected to work in private clinics. Hospitals and medical centres accounted for 13%, whereas schools and universities and community agencies were both predicted to employ 8% each. Only 2% of graduates were expected to work in other sectors.
However, the actual employment results were quite different. The percentage of graduates working in private clinics dropped sharply to 16%. By contrast, schools and universities became the biggest employer, accounting for 46% of graduates. Similarly, community agencies employed 26%, which was significantly higher than the predicted figure. Meanwhile, hospitals and medical centres hired only 3% of graduates, compared with the anticipated 13%. Finally, the proportion working in other sectors increased from 2% to 8%.
