The two pie charts compare psychologists’ expected employment after graduation with their actual employment in five different sectors.

Overall, there were significant differences between graduates’ expectations and the real situation. While most students expected to work in private clinics, the largest proportion actually found jobs in schools and universities. In addition, employment in community agencies was much higher than expected.

According to the first chart, 68% of graduates anticipated working in private clinics, making this by far the most popular choice. Hospitals and medical centres were expected to employ 13% of graduates. Meanwhile, both schools and universities and community agencies accounted for 8% each, while only 2% expected to work in other fields.

However, the actual employment figures were quite different. Only 16% of psychologists worked in private clinics, representing a sharp decline from expectations. Likewise, the percentage employed in hospitals and medical centres fell to just 3%. In contrast, schools and universities became the largest employer, accounting for 46% of graduates.
