Illustrated in the bar chart is the percentage of water levels in reservoirs in six Australian cities between October 2009 and October 2010. Overall, there was an upward trend in the proportion of water levels among cities, except for Darwin and Brisbane. In addition, the figure for Canberra was the highest in both years.
To begin with, the percentage of Canberra remained the uppermost in water levels, which started at under 80 percent in October 2009, ending with a significant increase to nearly 100 percent in 1 year. In contrast, Darwin experienced a substantial drop from around 50 percent in the first year to below 30 percent in October 2010. In comparison, Brisbane’s figure was stable at almost 60 percent over the research period.
While the water level in Sydney rose slightly by 2 percent to just above 80 percent, that of Perth witnessed dramatic growth from 40 percent to approximately 70 percent. Similarly, but to a lesser extent, about 20 percent of the water level in Melbourne was seen, followed by a considerable rise to double that in October 2010.
