The pie charts illustrate the number of students who graduated the secondary school in Australia with three different employment status in 1980, 1990 and 2000.
Overall, while there was a decrease in the percentage of secondary school leavers in Australia who were employed or unemployed, the opposite was true for those who pursued further education. In addition, it was also notable that the unemployment status had the lowest percentage in all three years.
As can be seen in the charts, the proportion of students who were employed after leaving secondary school stood at 40% in 1980, with a subsequent increase to 50% in the next ten years, and a final growth to 55% in 2000. By contrast, the figure for those pursuing further education saw a different change, rising slightly by 2% from 1980 t 1990, and dropping to 8% in the last year of the period.
Regarding the remaining status, the share of students leaving secondary school with unemployment status accounted for 50% in the first year, after which it experienced a significant decline to 38% for the following ten years, before ending at 37% at the end of the period.
