The pie charts illustrate the proportion of forests in five distinct areas worldwide, and their percentage of timber production.
Overall, despite accounting for the largest share of forest among the five regions, the proportion of timber production in Africa was the lowest. In contrast, with the highest wood production, North America was the region with the second largest percentage of forest.
Regarding the two regions with the highest percentages of forest, Africa had the largest forest area, making up 27%, which was 2% higher than that of North America, at 25%. However, there was a significant difference in the wood production of these areas. While the percentage of timber produced in North America was up to 30%, the figure for Africa was merely one-third of that in North America.
Concerning the remaining categories, Europe, South America and Asia had much lower percentages of forest compared to the others, with the respective figures of 18%, 16% and 14%. Among these regions, South America had the largest share of wood production, at 23%, which was higher than those of Europe and Asia, by 3% and 5% respectively.
