The chat illustrates the average duration spent on two popular leisure activities across five surveyed age groups in New Zealand.
Overall, it can be observed that the oldest age group spends more time reading, while the youngest group shows the greatest preference for listening to music. Additionally, the time spent on reading books increases with age, whereas the statistics for listening to music decrease from the youngest to the third age group, before rising again in the two older groups.
In the first chart, the age group of 55 and older dedicates the most time to reading, averaging 70 minutes per day. This is 20 minutes more than the 45-54 age group and 25 minutes more than the 35-44 age group. The 55+ group also spends significantly more time reading than the 25-34 and 15-24 age groups, with the time spent on reading in the former being double that of the latter, and three and a half times higher than the youngest group.
Turning to the second chart, the youngest age group reports the highest average duration for listening to music, at 80 minutes per day. Following closely is the oldest age group, which has a listening time slightly lower than that of the youngest. Meanwhile, the 25-34 and 45-54 age groups both have an equal listening time of 60 minutes per day. The time spent listening to music for the 35-44 age group remains consistent with their reading time.
