The line graphs illustrate the trading values of Australia with three different countries including China, Japan and the United States over a period of five years from 2004 to 2009.
Overall, Australia’s trade with China and Japan witnessed an upward trend while the opposite was true for the trade values with the United States. Furthermore, the values of imports from China experienced the most noticeable rise. In addition, Japan the highest exports values with Australia, far surpassing that of the US.
In terms of imports, the trading values of three countries witnessed a slight fluctuation at around 20 billion Australia dollars in 2004. Looking at China’s imports data, it had a significant rise till reaching a peak of 30 billion Australia dollars in 2009. Meanwhile, the figures for Japan and the US increased slightly at around 22 billion Australia dollars in 2008 and then dropped to the same values as in 2004. By contrast, China’s import values still dominated other countries over the course of five years.
Regarding exports, the figures for Japan started at 20 billion, which was double the figures of China and the US in 2004. Between 2005 and 2008, China and Japan experienced a similar trend, resulting in an increase to 30 billion for the former and 40 million for the latter. In terms of 2009, the export value with China still saw a gradual increase and then reached a peak at around 35 billion Australia dollars, by contrast the figure for Japan dropped sharply at 30 billion. According to the details of the US graph, its export values witnessed a fluctuation, rising from a low point at 10 billion to 14 billion in 2008, followed by a decline to 12 billion in the final year.
