The bar chart depicts the data of proportion of men and women employment in four countries (Belgium, USA, Japan, Indonesia) in 1970 and 2000 between 60-64 age group.
Looking from an overall perspective, even though the proportion of both men and women employment had decreased in all the four countries, men had higher employment rate compared to woman in both the years.
In 1970, USA holds the first position accounting to just over 85% for men and just under 80% for woman followed by Indonesia, with 85% and 65% approximately for men and woman respectively. Belgium has just under 80% and just over 60%, Japan just over 75% and just over 55% (men and woman each).
In 2000, USA still holds the first position as in 1970 with slight fluctuation in men’s rate with just under 80% for men and for woman, the rate drastically reduced about half, just over 40%. Followed by Indonesia, with just over 70% and 50% for men and woman each. Belgium and Japan on the other hand, had similar proportion for men around 52%, while for woman, just under 10% (steep decline) and just under 50% respectively.
