The charts compare the proportions of graduates who were unemployed, employed, and those who applied for further education right after graduating from secondary school between 1980 and 2000.
Overall, while the figure for employed graduates followed an upward trend, the opposite was true for unemployed and further education. Notably, the most significant change was observed in the percentage of those who pursued further education, whereas the highest proportion belonged to employed students.
The proportion of graduates who chose to work after finishing school increased, compared with those who were unemployed or pursued further education. In 1980, the proportion of employed graduates stood at 40%, and it rose notably to 50% in 1990, before reaching 55% in 2000.
By contrast, remaining figures bucked the trend. Starting with 50% in 1980, the figure for people who pursued further education fell considerably to 38% in 1990 and continued with a slight decline to 37% in 2000. As for unemployed graduates, they accounted for 10% in 1980. After growing minimally to 12% in 1990, the figure then experienced a minor decrease to 8% in 2000.
