The pie charts illustrate how people mainly traveled to a particular university in 2004 and 2009.
Overall, while the car was the main means of transport to the university in 2004, the bus was the most popular option in 2009. It is also evident that more people traveled to the university by public transport in 2009.
At the start of the period, just over half of the respondents traveled to the university by car, whereas only a third took the bus. The remaining ones rode bikes, went by train, or walked to the university, with the respective figures of 9%, 3% and 4%.
In the next five years, the proportion of students traveling by car dropped dramatically to just 28% due to the car parking charges in 2006. Meanwhile, the new bus stop constructed in 2008 made buses the most popular method of transport, with 46% of students using them. Additionally, students who cycled to the university accounted for significantly higher proportions, at 16%. Meanwhile, the figures for trains and walking remained almost the same, at 4% and 6%, respectively.
