Overall, the percentage of income spent on both food and other goods was greater in 2008 compared to 1998. Furthermore, in the year 1998, the proportion of salary spent on food and other goods was the highest in Germany compared to the other two countries.
In the year 1998, both France and England spent less than 20 percent on both food and other goods. In the case of food, the percentage accounted for 15 percent and 10 percent in France and England respectively. In the case of other goods, both countries spent less than 10 percent. Meanwhile, Germany spent the highest on food and other goods in comparison to the other countries which accounted for 25 percent and 17 percent respectively.
In the year 2008, the proportion of salary spent on food and other goods was collectively greater compared to 1998. In the case of France, the proportion of money spent on food and other goods increased drastically from less than 20 percent in 1998 to 40 percent in the year 2008. A marginal rise can be seen in the case of Germany accounting for a 5 percent increase in amount spent on food and other goods. When it comes to England, only a minimal increase of 5 percent in the percentage spent on food can be seen, whereas the proportion of salary spent on other goods drastically increased from 8 percent to 35 percent.
