The charts display the information about the proportion of the population of Nepal and Thailand who work in different categories of jobs. Overall, there was a decline in sales sector in both countries, however, the proportion of manufacturing workers increased.
In 1960, in both countries the most preferred jobs were related to the sales, with 41% in Nepal and 70% in Thailand. This figure dropped by half in 2010 in Nepal which moved the general trend away from sales to manufacturing. In Thailand, the proportion of the sales workers marginally decreased to 53%, despite this, the sector stayed as the top. The manufacturing was the least wanted job in both countries, but at the end of the period, it became the dominant category in Nepal with 64% of workers. Despite this figure increased to 22% in Thailand, this sector remained in the last place.
The service – related jobs showed different patterns in both countries. For instance, in Nepal this sector covered 30% of the population, whereas in Thailand this figure was 20%. After four decades, in Nepal the demand to this sector decreased, being in the last position through other job categories. By contrast, in Thailand the proportion of this sector had a slight increase, with difference of 2% between 1960 and 2010.
