The pie graphs illustrate the numbers and proportions of cars that were on sale in Australia in April of three separate years: 1994, 2004, and 2014.
Overall, Australian habitants had an increasing tendency to purchase cars throughout the 30 years. Moreover, while the popularity of SUVs experienced an upward trend, the opposite was true for that of Saloon cars.
In the beginning, 42000 was recorded in the total number of cars that were purchased regardless of type. With 31500 Saloon cars sold, the car sales in Australia depended mostly on this means of transport, as it accounted for up to 75%. The number of unspecified four-wheel vehicles was significantly lower, at 7980, constituting 19%. The most minor segment was observed in SUVs, at 6%.
After a decade, there was an increase of 2000 cars in the total number. Saloon, despite displaying a minimal shift in the numbers, its percentage decreased dramatically by 10%, due to the growth of the two remaining models. Specifically, SUVs and unnamed categories’ proportions upsurged by 8% and 2%, reaching 6720 and 10080 cars sold in 2004 respectively.
By 2014, Australia continued witnessing a constant increase in its car sales to 52000, yet less reliance on the sales of Saloon, as its numbers declined considerably from 31200 to 28600 in this year. SUV sales, on the other hand, experienced a prominent improvement both in numbers and proportion, reaching 12480 and 24% respectively. By contrast, standing at 21%, the unchanged fraction of unlabeled categories registered the lowest number at the end.
