Overall, it can be seen that the food industry accounted for the largest proportion throughout the years / in the span of ten years. However, others experienced a decline in their water consumption, except for the service industry and domestic use.
In 1997, the food sector made up 48% percent of the water consumed, which was the highest of all sectors. It then subsequently decreased by 7% in 2009. Similarly, the manufacturing segment was the second highest water consuming industry in the initial year at 15%, but then the figure dropped down to 11% in 2007, falling behind the service industry.
Between 1997 and 2007, the service category nearly doubled its water consumption, from 13% to 25%. Household usage remained at roughly the same level, at 19% in 1997 and 21% in 2007. The building industry’s figure went from 2% to 5% in the span of 10 years, more than double its original number.
