The chart compares average figures for temperature and precipitation over the course of a calendar year in Kolkata. The units are measured in Celsius and millimetres respectively.
Overall, it is evident that temperatures remained relatively stable throughout the period, whereas the level of precipitation saw dramatic fluctuations. Another notable fact is that rainfall is highest from July to August while temperatures are highest in April and May.
Between the months of January and May, figures for precipitation steadily increased, beginning at 20 mm in January and ending at 100 mm four months later. Average temperatures rose similarly over the early five months, from their lowest point at 20°C to a peak of 30°C.
While temperatures stay roughly the same for the next four months, the amount of rainfall more than doubles between May and June before peaking at around 330 mm in July. Then, precipitation numbers took a downward trend to a low of about 10 mm in December as temperatures dropped back to the January average by the end of the year.
