The given figures compare two road tunnels in two Australian cities.
Overall, there are some differences related to the construction time, the structure and the expense of these tunnels. It is also apparent that the second tunnel is longer and wider than the first one.
Firstly, the first tunnel was built in 1986 and finished in 1998. The other one was started 16 years later; however, it took only 4 years to be completed, three times lower than that of the first tunnel. Secondly, the first tunnel was constructed under the water and sand, whereas that of the second one was flat road and a layer of stone and clay. Additionally, the cost for the later tunnel was $1.1 billion, double that of the other one.
Regarding the dimension, the second tunnel’s length is 3.6 kilometers, longer than that of the first one, at 2.2 kilometers. The diagrams also show that the second tunnel is deeper than the first one, at 2.5 kilometers and 1.5 kilometers respectively. Finally, both of these tunnels are twin-tube form. However, in each tube, the first tunnel has only 2 lanes, whereas the second one has 3 lanes.
