The two maps illustrate how the seaside town of Felixstowe in the UK changed between 1967and 2001
Overall, the area became far more developed over the period. While the golf course and the hotel remained, farmland, the fish market, and the marina were removed and replaced with new facilities such as housing, a car park, and beaches for public and private use.
In 1967, the town centre was focused around the high street, with shops located in the middle. To the west of these shops there was a large golf course, while farmland occupied the eastern side. Near the coastline, there were sand dunes in the southwest and a hotel together with a café slightly inland. On the eastern coast, a fish market and a marina were built next to a pier.
By 2001, significant changes had taken place. The farmland in the east was replaced by residential housing and a second hotel, along with a small shopping area. The fish market, marina, and pier disappeared, and the coastline was reorganised into a public beach in the centre and a private beach on the eastern side. In addition, a car park was added near the original hotel, and wind turbines appeared in the southwest, while the dunes remained unchanged.
